Ingredients

  • 1 ½cupsall-purpose flour

  • 1teaspoonbaking powder

  • ½cupbutter

  • 3tablespoonsboiling water

  • ¾cupwhite sugar

  • 3tablespoonsall-purpose flour

  • 1teaspoonground cinnamon

  • teaspoonsalt

  • 4cupsfresh blackberries, rinsed and drained

  • 1tablespoonlemon juice

  • 2tablespoonsbutter

Cooking Directions

  1. Make the pastry dough: Sift flour, baking powder, and salt into a bowl. Cut in butter with a pastry cutter. Add boiling water to the flour mixture. Stir until mixture comes together in a ball. Divide dough in half and roll out two crusts. Place the bottom crust into a 9-inch pie pan.

  2. Preheat the oven to 425 degrees F (220 degrees C).

  3. Prepare the filling: Combine sugar, flour, cinnamon, and salt. Mix with berries. Place berry filling in the unbaked pie crust. Sprinkle with lemon juice and dot with butter.

  4. Fit and seal the upper crust.

  5. Bake on the lower shelf in the preheated oven for 30 to 40 minutes.
