Ingredients

  • 1 ½cupsdried great Northern beans, rinsed

  • 2large smoked neck bones

  • 2(14 ounce) canschicken broth

  • ½teaspoonsoul seasoning

  • ½onion, finely chopped

  • ½teaspoonwhite vinegar, or to taste (Optional)

  • 1pinchwhite sugar, or to taste (Optional)

  • 1dashhot sauce, or to taste (Optional)

Cooking Directions

  1. Gather all ingredients.

  2. Place beans into a large container and cover with several inches of cool water; let stand for 8 hours to overnight. Drain and rinse; set aside.

  3. Place neck bones in a slow cooker and pour chicken broth over bones; stir in soul seasoning.

  4. Cook on High until meat falls off the bone, about 1 hour. Transfer bones and meat to a plate and shred meat from bones; discard bones.

  5. Stir beans, onion, vinegar, sugar, and hot sauce into the slow cooker; spread shredded meat over bean mixture.

  6. Cook on Low for 4 to 6 hours or High for 2 to 4 hours.
