Ingredients

  • 10cupspuffed wheat cereal

  • 1cupcorn syrup

  • 1cupwhite sugar

  • ½cupunsalted butter

  • 6tablespoonsunsweetened cocoa powder

  • ¼cupbrown sugar

  • 1teaspoonvanilla extract

Cooking Directions

  1. Grease a 9×13-inch pan. Place cereal in a large heat-proof bowl.

  2. Bring corn syrup, white sugar, butter, cocoa powder, and brown sugar to a boil in a heavy saucepan. Remove from the heat and stir in vanilla; pour over cereal and stir until very well combined.

  3. Press mixture into the prepared pan. Allow to cool completely before cutting into 24 squares, at least 1 hour or up to one day.

Tips

These squares don’t set up as quickly as Rice Krispies treats. They can be eaten after one hour, but they will be firmer after a full day.
