Ingredients

  • 1tablespoonolive oil

  • 2cupschopped onion

  • 2cupschopped carrot

  • 2cupsfinely chopped celery

  • 1 ½teaspoonsminced garlic

  • 1cupyellow split peas

  • 1cupgreen split peas

  • 8cupsfat-free chicken broth

  • 1 ½teaspoonssalt-free seasoning blend (such as Mrs. Dash®)

  • 1teaspoonsalt

Cooking Directions

  1. Heat oil in a Dutch oven over medium heat. Add onion, carrot, celery, and garlic; cook and stir until onion is translucent, 5 to 7 minutes. Stir in broth, split peas, and seasoning blend; cover and bring to a boil. Reduce the heat and simmer, stirring frequently, until peas are tender, about 2 1/2 hours. Purée with an immersion blender and serve.
