Ingredients

  • 1tablespoonolive oil

  • 1largeyellow onion, chopped

  • 2poundslean ground beef

  • 3clovesgarlic, chopped

  • 3cupswater

  • 2(15 ounce) canstomato sauce

  • 2(14.5 ounce) cansdiced tomatoes

  • 3tablespoonssoy sauce

  • 2tablespoonsdried Italian herb seasoning

  • 1tablespoonseasoned salt, or to taste

  • 3bay leaves

  • 2cupsuncooked elbow macaroni

Cooking Directions

  1. Heat olive oil in a large Dutch oven over medium-high heat. Add onion and cook 3 minutes, stirring often. Add ground beef and cook, breaking up the meat until it is evenly browned, about 5 minutes. Add garlic and cook 3 minutes, stirring often.

  2. Stir in water, tomato sauce, diced tomatoes, soy sauce, Italian seasoning, seasoned salt, and bay leaves. Bring to a simmer, cover and cook 5 minutes, stirring halfway through.

  3. Stir in uncooked macaroni, cover, and simmer over medium heat until pasta is tender, 11 to 13 minutes, stirring occasionally. Remove from heat, discard bay leaves, and serve.

Slow Cooker Version:

Preheat a slow cooker on High. Make the recipe through Step 1; place browned beef and onion mixture into the preheated slow cooker. Mix in water, tomato sauce, diced tomatoes, soy sauce, Italian seasoning, seasoned salt, and bay leaves. Add uncooked macaroni and stir until thoroughly combined. Cook on High for 1 hour.
