Ingredients

  • 1pounddried pinto beans

  • 1poundBlack Forest ham, cubed

  • 1mediumonion, chopped

  • ¾mediumgreen bell pepper, diced

  • 2mediumcelery ribs, chopped

  • 3clovesgarlic, chopped

  • 1tablespoondried oregano, or to taste

  • 1tablespoonlard

  • 1teaspoonground cumin, or to taste

  • 2largebay leaves

  • 5cupschicken broth, or as needed to cover

  1. Place beans in a large bowl and cover with water. Allow to soak 8 hours to overnight. Drain.
